I may be a few years late to the party on this one, but I've really discovered and enjoyed mash-ups in 2007. One of the benefits of coming into a genre, (or maybe sub-genre?), a few years after its come into being is that you get to enjoy the fairly massive body of work thats already been created.

On a side note - we got our first Christmas tree yesterday, and its a real one. Awesome. Really introduced the holiday spirit around here - so it was very cool to see a couple of Holiday flavored "Santatastic!" mash-up collections - comprised of some amazing material. Check out Go Home Production's 'Carpenters Christmas' for a taste of what I'm talking about. It combines the Carpenters 'Sleigh Ride' with the Root Radics reggae-bass driven 'Gambling'. GHP captured the feel of the song perfectly -

Imagine yourself in an ice skating rink.

Good.
So you are skating around with your teenage sweetheart, who stumbles to the floor, dragging you down, as the Capenters 'Sleigh Ride' booms out through the PA. You smack your head on the ice and are immediately transported into a reggae/lovers/dub pop-fest sprinkled with enough seasonal ear candy to suit any Winters playlist.
Add a couple more spoonfuls of Carpenters sugariness halfway through, mash and bring to the boil.
